Life and Light

Updated: Aug 24, 2023

If evolution is true, then both life and light are mere manifestations of dead matter banging about the universe from the Big Bang.

Light and darkness have no meaning but for life. What is light to a lifeless universe? And what is life in a dark, completely dark universe of dead matter?

If evolution is true light and life not only have no explanation but also have no intrinsic meaning in the universe. Both are mere byproducts of Big Bang matter splatter. Do not be fooled by by those to whom light has come and been rejected: evolution and those who believe it to be true cannot explain life. And light? It can be described, but its origin cannot be explained.

Scripture speaks of both light and life in a way that rings true to our souls, if we let it. Scripture teaches of the true light that gives light to every man coming into the world. In fact, this light, we are told, came into the world though the world was made by him.

Him? Yes, scripture teaches that in Jesus was life, and that life was the light of men.

Not surprisingly to anyone paying attention, this light came to men on earth but many men on earth did not recognize him. It seems that there is something in the human heart that naturally loves darkness over light.

And there is little darker than the uncaring, purposeless universe of evolution. No meaning; what “life” there is being mere random matter believing itself alive and being subject to meaningless death in a fight for bare survival. And then meaningless death. All is meaningless.

And yet every part of our being being enlivened by unbounded reason senses a soul within each of us, something also unexplained by mere matter in motion. And that soul cannot but believe there is more to being than simply existing in a meaningless universe. And that soul senses shadows, the shadows evidencing light in the world.

Is it possible that the light we sense is a true light of the world? The light of life in Jesus? And this light is something we can turn toward and receive to gain life more abundantly on earth?

Yes, it’s possible.

But not if evolution is true.
